7 Steps to a Mobile-friendly Drupal Site // 09.02.09

  • 1. Downloaded and install Mobile Tool (depends on the Token module): (Siruna has promise once it’s past the beta stage).
  • 2. Download and install Browscap Module for mobile detection.
  • 3. Enable both the Mobile Tools and Browscap modules.
  • 4. Under site configuration > browscap > check monitor browsers (this allows tracking on users who visit your site on a mobile device).
  • 5. Create a Mobile theme >
    • a. Go to your theme directory
    • b. Copy your current theme folder and give it a new name (e.g. mobile_themename)
    • c. Copy all of the folder’s contents into the new mobile folder
    • d. Rename the *.info file (edit in text edit program) for mobile (e.g. mobile_themename.info)
    • e. Duplicate your existing stylesheet for mobile use and rename it in the .info doc
    • f. Go to the theme configuration page and enable your new theme.
  • 6. Administer > site building > enable new theme
  • 7. Under administer > site configuration >
    • a. mobile tools > configure settings
    • b. mobile roles > activate mobile user roles
    • c. mobile theme > choose theme

Bada bing! Now you can add/remove blocks and content to your liking. If you’re on a mobile device, the mobile detect automatically switches to your mobile theme. Please give feedback as this is my first real tutorial attempt!!
